A long-overdue post to flog an event that brings dissident/artist/dissident-artist/etc Ai Weiwei together with yaogun happening at the Art Gallery of Ontario on THURSDAY SEPT 5.
Ai, readers will note, jumped from the visual art world into the audio-visual world with the June release of an album entitled Divine Comedia, the first video from which I recently reviewed (the link only seems to be behind a paywall; closer examination reveals a way to, as Ai titled one of his songs, “Just Climb The Wall”).
In celebration of According to What?, the traveling exhibition of Ai’s work now on display at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the AGO First Thursdays series, which extends the Gallery’s exhibitions into the evening hours with multi-disciplinary celebrations, brings in yours truly to soundtrack the evening with yaogun.
It’s an evening chock full of great: Renowned hardcore band, and veterans of a 2009 China tour, Fucked Up; a Skype conversation between the Artist and AGO Director and CEO Matthew Teitelbaum; a one-night-only selection of protest art from the AGO vaults and much more.
